Theme 2 Low Carbon Design Strategies and Renewables Energy
The Second Newton training event took place at the University of East London (UEL) on the 1st – 13th April 2018. The overall theme of the programme was Low Carbon Design Strategies and Renewable Energy. The training provided an in-depth understanding of low carbon technologies covering the technical design aspects, embodied energy and capital and running costs incurred when integrating strategies and systems into new and existing buildings.
The training sessions involved lectures, workshops and specialist software training; Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES-VE). Guest speakers and workshops were delivered by the UK Green Building Council (UK GBC) Guest talks were delivered by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and Siemens. Lectures were also delivered by experts from the Newton project partners from UEL and the UoS. Site visits to The Crystal, Zaha Hadid Architects, The London Olympic Park and the BRE innovation park were delivered to highlight low carbon design principles in practice.
