Stakeholder Consultation Workshop: August 2017, Cairo, Egypt
In response to the needs and constraints initially identified by the project partners and stakeholders from industry, research bodies and professionals in the discipline, the underlying vision for BC-SDBE to educate for sustainability, build capacity and upsurge employability in the building sector; graduates and practitioners should be enabled to develop a well-rounded interdisciplinary knowledge base of sustainability principles, strategies and trends. The anticipated benefit is two-fold; the knowledge and practice will benefit the community and the country at the wider scale, and the capacity-building process will directly benefit individuals who learn and apply their scholarship in their practice. Effective stakeholder participation in the programme delivery process is a vital component for target groups. Besides, this promotes a grass roots input which is more effective than a top-down approach. This has started in the form of stakeholder consultations to outline the specific needs and demands of the construction labour market. This was then followed by steering group meetings to formalise those needs and demands
The project kick starts with a set of task and finish groups and consultations with stakeholder representatives from academia, research, practice, NGOs, industrial partners, syndicate engineers, among others. Four stakeholder consultation events will be run throughout the project duration to ensure views of stakeholders in the building sector feed into the research and training provided by BC-SDBE. Partners will organise and run three workshops per year to provide directions, outline the research and training framework and review project activities and participants’ feedback/feed-forward to will be organized during the project duration.
